About dad-hoc

Welcome

Welcome to dad-hoc, a place for me to document lots of snippets of my day-to-day life. My name is Craig, and I live in Glasgow, Scotland, and work in higher education. The name of the blog speaks for itself, really. This blog is a place for me to share ad-hoc content, plus I'm a dad!

Over the last twenty years I have attempted to blog several times but life has often got in the way things have dwindled. But I actually really like to write, and I have come to the conclusion that life will always get in the way and we just have to make time for the things we love and enjoy. So here we are trying once again, and keeping it simple in the hopes that I can keep it going. Support and cheering from the sidelines, or comments, would definitely help a lot!

I've spent the last twenty-plus years living and travelling all over the world. I am extremely fortunate that my work has enabled me to continue to explore the world, visit new places, learn about new cultures, try new food (god, I love to cook and eat) and collect many trinkets and souvenirs from afar.  I've also made friends from all over, who I love to keep in touch with through social media and in person when destiny allows.

I fulfilled a lifetime dream by adopting my son Ryan, who is now almost 7, and life as a dad has been an epic rollercoaster. There will be lots of our adventures and favourite places to visit documented here, as well as some details of my experience of the adoption process.

I love cooking and eating and exploring new foods, tastes and flavours, and places to eat, and I will no doubt share lots of food-related content plus some recipes for you to consider trying yourself. Feel free to get in touch with recommendations and suggestions for me to try.

The last three or so years have been spent renovating an old Victorian semi-detached house and it's been a labour of love (and hate), a complete money pit, but it is coming along and looking fantastic. You will no doubt see lots of content about decorating, must-have items as well as plans for the rest of the house (as it's only about halfway finished).

Some other ad-hoc, or dad-hoc things I might write about are clothes, trainers (i have loads), candles, perfumes and scents, technology, blogging, music, TV programmes, movies, places to visit, stationery (I have an unhealthy obsession), my never-ending PhD and research, days out, days in, activities with kids, activities without kids, cocktails and wine..... you get the picture.

I really hope you enjoy reading along (if anyone does) and please do follow along on socials and post comments, reach out with post ideas, questions and collaboration opportunities.

Happy Reading,

Craig
